TWO EVENTS with Broadway Actor / Playwright Douglas Lyons

A Conversation and a Play Reading - Both Free

2nd Generation and Ujima Theatre Company are joining forces to present BLACK ON BROADWAY, a Conversation with Douglas Lyons, this Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 6 p.m. at Shea’s Smith Theatre, 658 Main Street.   Those interested can register for this free event online, or using the QR code below.

 

Douglas Lyons's credits are impressive. His Broadway debut as a playwright, Chicken and Biscuits, became the 2nd most produced play in America in 2022-23 and earned him a GLAAD nomination. Of the play, the New York Times said, “This family comedy, with its cheek and secrets and eulogies and amens, wants to offer audiences living in bad times an old-fashioned good one.”

 

Lyons’s Broadway acting credits include the Book of Mormon, the original cast of Beautiful: the Carol King Musical and the Tony award winning Broadway revival of ParadeHe has also toured in RentDreamgirls and Book of Mormon.  He served as a writer on both seasons of Apple TV's Emmy award winning series Fraggle RockAs a composer-lyricist, his music and lyrics have been featured on Nickelodeon, BET Plus, Apple TV, CBS's Sunday Morning Show, and more. His musicals include Polkadots (Off Broadway Alliance Winner Best Family Show, Atlantic Theater Company), Beau (Adirondack Theatre Festival), Breathe (Audible), The Moon and The Sea (Constellation Stage) and the world premiere of Five Points (Theater Latté Da). With composing partner Ethan D. Pakchar, Douglas is a 2020 Jonathan Larson Grant finalist.

 

Then on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 7 p.m., 2nd Generation Theatre will kick off their 2024-2025 Free Reading Series with Lyons’s new play, Pure Glitter, a new play for the gays, followed by a discussion with the playwright, also at Shea’s Smith Theatre.
